Welcome to the Centre for Data Engineering (CDE)

Centre for Data Engineering aims to work on research problems and innovative projects that extend the state of the art in data management, data mining, data dissemination, work-flow management, and multi-agent systems. The work done by the centre so far, ranges from the intricate details of query optimization and transaction processing to meta-models for electronic contracts, implementing new features for open-source database systems to building state of the art systems that simulate a billion agents. The e-sagu project initiated from this centre has CSI-Nihilent award, Manthaan award, and was finalist in Stockholm Challenge award.

The focused research areas of the centre are:

  • Database systems - Query Optimization, Transaction Processing, and Performance Modeling and Simulation
  • Data Mining, Visualization and Data Warehousing
  • Text and Web Mining
  • Data Dissemination and Personalization
  • Electronic Contracts and Workflow Management Systems
  • Multi Agent Systems and Complex Systems Simulation
  • RoboCup - Rescue Simulation & Standard Platform League (Nao Robots)

The students of this centre have had fun doing research and competing in competitions and challenge events. The multi-agent group secured thrid place in Robocup competition and also got the best new agent award in a Robocup event. The group published and presented papers at various national and international conferences, and won 'best-paper' awards. The group meets weekly for discussing latest literature on active research areas, keeping abreast of the latest advancements in technology and research.

Various companies and organizations that have been funding a part of the research at the Centre are: Ministry of Information Technology, Department of Science and Technology, Boeing, Microsoft, Google, IBM, Nokia, KidoSoft, Satyam and Infosys.
